Unhappy 98 V70 XC burns 2 1/2 quarts of oil every 20miles

As the title state I burn 2 1/2 quarts every 20 miles and their is so much smoke coming from the exhaust that I cannot see behind me. no Check Engine light and the engine still has the same power as always. Also The head gasket was replaced 6 months ago. 167000miles on the clock fuel mileage has suffered significantly. from 32 down to 21

have you done a compression test? how do the plugs look (ie all the same or different colors)? Just thinking about the ways oil can get into the exhaust would be on the intake ie via the PCV (easy to check but not likely as I'd think that much oil would mess up the MAF), the head gasket (check compression, test for HCs in the coolant), broken ring (would present in the compression test but wouldn't put HCs in the coolant) and finally the turbocharger could have a blown seal dumping oil directly into the cat (your cat's probably already toast as are the O2 sensors ). A cracked head or block would also likely put oil into the coolant (oil pressure is higher than coolant pressure). I wouldn't rule out the head gasket because its new - the head could be warped or the mechanic didn't follow the proper procedure for bolting down the head leading to a premature failure.

Got the engine tore down to the pcv system. The oil separator was completely full of black cruddy looking stuff and the hole on the bottom was completely plugged. Ordered a new one that will be in Saturday Morning. Will update Saturday need it running for a trip to Ohio (500miles away) on Sunday so hopefully that will be the fix for it. Thanks for your help! Does that sound like a good fix to you?
