99 V70R AWD with rear driveshaft removed?
So I am in the market to buy a VO station wagon. I want either an 850R wagon, V70 T5 or V70R AWD if I can find one. I saw one on sale that advertises the rear driveshaft being removed so runs only on front wheel drive.. Is this ok? Im curious as to whether this can be a permanent modification or will it cause long term damage?

The thing about it is the cost to fix it when it has issues is about $1,200. Many people choose to ditch it vs fix it. They aren't that bad, just need to make sure your tires are all the same size when it's in place or it will cause it to get damaged. Once the shaft is removed it's fine. No issues.

I have a '98 V70XC that I bought two years ago with a bad driveshaft. The bearing was shot, as well as the universal joint. I pulled it out and put 57k miles on it with front wheel drive. No problems.
Now I'm selling the car, so the driveshaft had to go back in. You won't find a driveshaft anywhere except the dealer, and it's expensive, as mentioned above. There's a place in Colorado that rebuilds them for about $500 if I recall, but you gotta pack yours up and ship it off to them.
If the CV boots on each end of the shaft are good, the remaining parts can be had for about $60. Pulling, repairing, and reinstalling takes maybe a couple hours. If you need the boots, they're about $25 a piece, and whatever time it takes to repack a CV joint.

Hi there i have a v70 2.5 turbo awd and its been no probs untill i broke the angle gear. It is a 1998 model which is prone to probs with the awd system or so i have been told. I replaced the gearbox when i bought it and its been fine untill the angle gear broke last week some later models have electrics and the earlyer ones are mechanical which has a angle driven prop from the diff to a vicious coupling on the rear diff not much to go wrong with them to be fair but i do advice using volvo oils in all transmission components and then you cant go wrong

I bought a 98 AWD. The timing belt broke the next day. The seller told me the belt was changed recently. My mechanic told me the kit wasn't replaced. Also the seller didn't tell me the driveshaft was removed. The seller told me the lights don't come on and the car will pass inspection. The same day the lights came on and the car won't pass inspection. Does anyone believe the seller should return my money?
