ABS & TRACS light on for no reason
Hi all,
I have a 1998 V70 AWD - generally in good working order, 80,000 miles.
The problem is that ABS and TRACS dash lights come on for no apparent reason after a few minutes of driving. Often there is a whirring noise and slight vibration through the brake pedal before the lights come on.
The people i bought it fromsaid their volvo garage and looked at it for several days and found no problem - the lights just appeared to be coming on for no reason.
I have had the ABS unit replaced at a volvo specialist garage, but that's not fixed it.
My local garage, which is very good but not a volvo expert, ran a diagnostic and it came back showing three of the wheels were faulty, which is extremely unlikely. They think it's a wiring/electrics problem rather than an ABS problem.
Unless i can fix it, it prob won't make it through its next MOT.
Any suggestions? I'm not experienced enough to make any fixes myself, but would like to be able to point the garage in the right direction, as they're stumped.
Cheers all

Check out Victor Rocha's web site for some good info - what happens is the ABS controller circuit boards are prone to cracks in the solder joints leading to intermittent fails (ie as the board heats up with driving). Different model Volvos present differently but the fix may be to have your controller repaired. Several shops offer this service.
