Default Been doing research for days, still have transmission questions

Anybody know much about the fwd auto's? Seems it's stuck in 3rd gear, and when shifted manually, shift extremely hard. Also shifts hard when going from park to reverse.

appears that there are no valve bodies available for them and it's a "sealed" trans which means the only way to flush is through the cooler using the bucket method.

Had a code for the output shaft speed sensor which i replaced to no effect.

it would be helpful for you to note the model and year you are referring to... not sure why you ask about "fwd auto's" - nothing magical about Volvo trannys - they have solenoids, they have computer controls and they have a cooler - many models use Aisin-Warner transmissions (just like your Toyota Camry). Your symptoms could be software related, could be a switch/sensor or could be a solenoid (ie like what the "valve body" does.

Also don't read too much into the "sealed system" terminology. Many people report being told their transmission is a sealed system in the context that a fluid change is not required during the lifetime of the vehicle. That doesn't mean there isn't a pan to drop for servicing. The idea of using the cooler lines for flushing the transmission is that when you drop the pan, you only remove 1/3 of the fluid. When you use the transmission cooler lines to pump out the old and pump in the new fluid, you exchange all the transimission fluid. You will find many dealers now offer a "flush" as a service - but its not a difficult DIY service (as noted you need two buckets and access to the cooler lines. Care has to be taken inspecting/removing the lines but that's about it).

By fwd auto, i just meant that it's not a manual or an AWD auto car. I'm in the 98-2000 V70 forum so i'm not sure what else I need to put regarding vehicle info? However, it's a 2000 V70.

Anyway, upon further diagnosis with one of my better scan tools, i was able to find a few other codes that the ECu and TCU stored,

P0442 EvaporativeEmissionSystem LeakDetected(SmallLeak) GlobalOBDII /EOBDCurrentCodes
Not too concerned about this one at the moment since we know what that can be.

P1601 ManufacturerControlledComputerOutputCircuit GlobalOBDII /EOBDCurrentCodes

P1618 ManufacturerControlledComputerOutputCircuit GlobalOBDII /EOBDCurrentCodes

P0116 EngineCoolantTemperatureSensor1CircuitRange/Performance GlobalOBDII /EOBDCurrentCodes

Sounds like you may be in limp mode (ie computer is limiting power into tranny)

Check out this link for some descriptions of the OBD2 codes..

I found other posts which suggested this may be tied to the electronic throttle motor and in their case, the car required a reflash of the programming for the ETM. You may want to inspect and clean the throttle body for starters - there's some Youtube vids on how to test as well. The 1618 is saying the two computers for the fuel and for the transmission are not talking.. could be wiring, a component or the programming.
