Drive shaft

I have heard some people do change just the bearing but it involves dropping the driveshaft, finding a bearing, having it pressed on by machine shop and reinstalling it.
The rubber dampener (donut) that the bearing sits in can be damaged, allowing the bearing to flop around. If the u-joint is frozen then the dampener will get destroyed. Inspect the rubber dampener. If its damaged then drop the drive shaft and see if u-joint is frozen. If you need a new u-joint, bearing and dampener then I suggest getting a reman driveshaft. It is not difficult to remove/install. Try Colorado Driveshaft. Under $500 delivered, new joint, bearing, dampener, balanced and ready for install. They give directions and have great customer satisfaction. If you need just a bearing then surf the forums to find where they can be found, and work with a good machine shop. I had a bad u-joint and real bad dampener (bearing was fine) and went with a reman. Simple job. FYI, if u-joint is bad it will cause stress on rubber dampener as the shaft will bend there instead of u-joint eventually ripping it up and then banging around in the support bracket (noticeable on accelerations and turns).
