Modding my V70 as a newbie
Hey guys, Im kinda new to all this modding stuff and just started learning about the basics of different types of engines all the way up to different types of headers and suspensions. I was looking around different forums, articles, websites, etc... and I found that the Volvo V70 was an interesting sleeper vehicle that could be modded since there is a lot of space in the trunk and in the hood to install different types of mods. I am considering buying a V70 since I have found a couple accross dealerships and independant sellers alike. What do you guys think about modding this car? Is it a good idea to start here, or should I start somewhere else? Btw I know its a weird car to mod, but thats what I am looking for, something spacious and comfortable that can has potential of being humbly modded. If you guys know any website where I can start with parts, lmk, thanks guys.
depends what you want to do with your mods. More HP? best to start with a turbo model. You can drop in an ECU tune, larger downpipe, bigger turbo (Volvos use HD04s so can rebuild with bigger compressor/impeller wheels or swap out, particularly if the base car is a low pressure turbo) etc. Better handling? IPD sells bigger sway bars, plus you can go with better shocks (Bilstein HDs, Konis etc) or lowering springs, plus better wheels (17s or 18s). Better sound system? earlier models have a double DIN sized unit in the dash easy to upgrade and plenty of locations for speakers (not to mention adding a sub box to the rear and you can find a spot for the amps. Volvo seats are pretty comfy out of the factory but you can find replacement skins if you want to freshen the leather. You can also find factory switches for adding driving lights or upgrade the headlights to "e-code" euro specs and some models came with a rear spoiler for a nice touch.
Ideally all of the stuff you have stated above would be useful, my friends and I are looking to max out the cars potential. Do you think I could put air-suspension on the V70, there seems to be enough trunk space but I was wondering if its viable. And for the tuner, what brand of tuner would work and is it more useful to go to a mechanic and let him do it or buy my own and apply the settings that are proper for the car? Also, which of these things do you reconmmend doing first, as in what mods go first and what should probably be saved for later? Thanks
