My V70 Won't start
So new I posted this in the wrong forum ! sorry guys, I'll get the hang of it soon
Hi new to forums so please be gentle!
I have a 98 V70 2.5 that won’t start, when I turn the key the engine fires and dies instantly, if I turn the key again it won’t even fire. It is as if some residual vapour fires but no fuel gets through, I have checked all the contacts and fuses but found nothing, thinking it must be the fuel pump I had the car towed to my local garage, my mechanic has tested the fuel pump and that works and we have tried both keys to rule out the immobilizer chips. When tested through the diagnostics no error is found, both my mechanic and myself are stumped, and ideas?

Hi Mark, if you have a US '98 it has no key chip or ring. Cars need 4 things to start, fuel, spark, air, and compression.
1. The first thing to check is fuel pressure. If your mechanic is not a Volvo guy, this will make things a little tough for him but there is a valve at the end of the fuel rail that is behind the throttle linkage where he can check fuel pressure.
2. Check for spark. That should be easy for him.
3. Air, it should have air because it does't have any codes.
4. Compression, that is easy to check as well.
If the car has NO fuel pressure OR spark, it likely has a bad cam sensor on the back of the exhaust cam. If it has no compression, it has lost it and it needs to be boosted by putting a little oil in the cylinders through the spark plug holes and cranked for about 30 seconds to start it.
That is a start, hope it helps.

Thanks for the reply, some useful tips, I have the UK 98 so it's an estate rather than a waggon
, this is why I was thinking along the lines of either chip or halo.
I know the valve you talk of on the injector rail and will check the pressure, we definitely have a spark, pretty sure we have compression, I have a tester so will check.
Thanks again for your advice
