Power Steering Noises/Built up Pressure

Power Steering Noises/Built up Pressure
1998 Volvo V70 GLT, AWD (auto)
Noticed that my power steering pump was wining so went to check the power steering fluid. When opening the cap, heard a a gasp of pressure being released and not sure what would cause that. The power steering seems to work just fine, just keep hearing the noises still and not sure why it built up the pressure?
