Which shock absorbers?

Hi
Need new shocks on the front of a 97 v70 2.5t, have oil ones at the moment & one is leaking, Question, oil or gas?, any particular make? A friend is going to lend me a pr of spring compressors, any advice, I have a manual.

Check with Monroe, among the few having a replacement, and seem to be working well.
