Default 2001 P2 V70 Heater Core install

I've done a ton of searching on this site and google and I've yet to find someone that details out how they installed their heater core. I found one post that discusses what a pain in the but it was, but that's it. I have access to AllDataPro and it instructs to remove the entire steering column. I'm curious if anyone has figured out a way to do this with out taking the steering column out.

This might help: http://www.volvoxc.com/0/resources/h...r_removing.pdf

Couple notes:

No need to remove the steering column. Just remove the brake light switch and you can jiggle the core out. Putting it in is easier because the fins are angled to let it slide in.

Make sure you have plenty of patience when putting the clips back in once the core is installed. I found it somewhat more bearable to use a small wrench to put pressure on the aluminum pipe and bracing it up against the steering column while putting in the clips.(you will see what I am talking about when you get there) Everything up until that point is actually pretty easy.

Cheers,
Jaron

Thanks. It's odd that every single set of instructions I'm seeing here mentioned nothing about taking the steering column off, but ALLDATA is telling me I need too. I'll be tackling it once I'm off this shift, thanks for the help.

So much for tackling this tonight, Volvo only had the clips in stock, had to special order the o-rings. Thursday it is!

Thanks for the tip on the wrench against the steering column. I measured the correct length and wedged a screw driver in there and it actually pressed the washer/hose right in there. I have another trick up my sleeve for getting the metal tubes out of the way so you don't bend ANY fins on the install. It'll be in the HOW TO. Thanks for the help.

Glad to help. I didn't wash my core before installation and I had a pretty bad plastic smell coming from the vents for a week or so. Did you have the same thing?

Nope, didn't wash mine and no plastic burning smell. Now I think the thermostat needs to be replaced. Add that to the list...ha.

I ended up using a long flat head. There's a small piece of plastic you can wedge it against. I just posted a bunch of pictures on the install on my new FB page. Check out one of the last images, shows the black tab I'm talking about.
