Default Heater core for 2001 S40

Anybody know why heater cores for 2001 S40 are so hard to find? Not available on any of the online parts stores. I have coolant all over the passenger side floorboard.

Any tips on replacing it?

Thanks

Hi,

Welcome to the forum, I hope you find it helpful & enjoyable.

I too did some research and could not find one, to my surprise. It may be either the manufacturer/distributor is out of stock.

Here're my suggestions:

1. Call a few vendors and ask them the availability & why it's difficult to find.

2. Junk yard (there are some modern cars at yards with certain parts intact from side/rear-collision, etc).

3. Visit a local dealer and ask them to see if other Volvo models share the same heater core, as well as the part number. If so, do another search with different models (S60, etc) and see if you can find the unit. I feel there should be at least another model that uses the same part. Or, let the dealer's parts dept person show you the actual part and see if you can locate a part number, as well as the OEM name (although dealer parts usually have Volvo mark stamped and you cannot find the OEM name, it's worth a try).

4. Bite the bullet and go with aftermarket part (avoid parts that are made in certain countries, you knowwhat I mean right?)

5. See if Moderator Tech knows something about the situation. PM (Personal Message function) Tech if necessary (be sure to ask questions with courtesy and thank him in advance).

6. As a last resort, call Volvo of North America or Volvo'scustomer assistancein Sweden.

I hope you can find one soon. Sorry I couldn't be of better help.

Just bringing this topic back to the top, as I have the same problem/question. I have temporarily bypassed the heater core in the engine compartment, but this will need to be fixed properly in the near future.

Does anyone know of a good place to find a replacement heater core(or heat exchanger)? I haven't called the dealer yet, but I figure it's gonna be a pretty penny from them. Part # I believe is 30824458. I've tried googling the part and come up with next to nothing except for someone else giving the part# for a 98 S40.

Thanks for any help.

I too need to replace a leaky heater core, but have been putting it off for quite a while now, as shown in my original, post on the same subject.

I've found the part number for the 2001 S/V40 to be 30824478, and it's more than $350. Haven't been able to locate any aftermarket ones.

This post, on dashboard removal to access the heater core, explains the procedure - and why the dealer is looking at 6 hours of labor to R/R the heater core. That post mentions that you have to evac the A/C and is why I'm deferring the maintenance. I wasn't looking forward to removing the entire dash, but really don't want to have to deal with the A/C refrigerant.
