Default 2001 V70 brake light switch & heater core removal

I am in the process of removing my heater core from my 2001 V70 and in order to do so, I must remove the brake light switch from its bracket for clearance. I don't know whether to twist it, pry it or push a release button to get it out without breaking anything.
Also, I now have the two pipes free of the heater core and have managed to cut the zip-tie holding the pipes to the upper bracket. Do I have to disconnect the pipes in the engine compartment as well in order to finagle the core out of its nest?
Any advice from someone that has gone through this ordeal would be appreciated.
