Default 2002 T5 Auto shakes on cold start up...

Greetings all,
I have a issue when I am starting my car for the first time after the car has been sitting all night. What happens is the car will fire up just fine but as soon as I put the transmission in reverse or even drive it will start to shake semi-violently. The RPM gauge doesn't seem to flutter at all and if I put it back into park it goes away. After the water temp starts to rise this becomes a non-issue and doesn't happen again until after the engine has cooled completely off. Another thing I noticed as well is the brakes don't seem to work as well when the event is happening. I have to shove the pedal down to get any response from the brakes. It seems the issues are related possibly? Any input would be appreciated. I searched for possible solutions but the search results didn't seem to match my issue.

My car:
2002 T5
89k miles.
All fluids recently changed.
Issue just started happening a month ago.
I live in the Austin, Texas area so morning temps are around 65degrees so I don't think ambient temp should be a factor.

Thanks,
Jaron

My 03 T5 will do this as well from time to time. I believe from what I've researched is the ETM needs cleaning. Brake issue maybe lack of vacuum.

It sounds like two separate issues to me, and might just be a coincidence that they seem to be happening at the same time (though I agree with CPOMan that if they are related, it would likely be a vacuum problem).

A bad motor or transmission mount can cause some pretty serious shake in the engine, and it's possible that one on its way out will react differently at different temperatures. I'd suspect the top (easy to see and check) or bottom (a lot tougher) mounts since they are most affected by the torque of putting the car in gear. It's possible that the brake / vacuum issue is caused by motor movement (a combination of a cracked hose and the motor moving could certainly do it). Try having someone put the car in gear while you look at the engine to see movement - if the upper motor mount is bad, you'll see that clearly. If the bottom mount is toast, you'll be able to tell the bottom of the motor is rotating.
