It plugs in under the dash on the left side. You'll see a little door there. They are pretty easy to use and you can look up the codes online specific to your vehicle. If nothing else, you can look up what you get and read up on it and it could save you a bundle! If you aren't comfortable doing it yourself you'll least have a clue when you go into the shop. If they start talking blinker fluid (as in BS-ing you) you can tell them good bye.

I have an Actron brand OBD scanner that worked fine on my kid's Subarus but codes were meaningless on the Volvo, just not codes that Volvo uses. The Bosch which I've used in couple Volvos, has done the job.

One thing I will say regarding your problems is I do all of my own repairs and when I see you tell the forum you pay 1000 dollars for a fuel pump and almost 600 dollars for a coil pack and a sensor I think yo myself how happy you would be and how much money you would save if you got yourself a few basic tools and learned how to change these very basic parts.......it had saved me loads of money 💰💰💰

Yeah.....I've done most all repairs on my trucks and cars over the years. But in 97 I became ill and was down for a long time. I quit doing most any repairs then. I'm 73 now and still in poor health- I have to depend on a shop to do it all. I have had bad luck on the volvo with repairs. Thank goodness I found a good shop for the wife's Honda. I suspect whenever- if ever- I get another vehicle...it will be a Honda. I know these folks personally and trust them. Actually it was the Milton's Honda Shop that told me about the last shop that really fixed my Volvo correctly.

Oh ok glad you found a decent shop...I have a really good local volvo wrecker here and I get all my parts from him usually so I'm definitely on the low end cost average that's for sure....

Default How to restart

Hi, Higgy and all,

my 2006 V70 is stalling in traffic. I know I have a cylinder 3 issue and taking it to repair next week. In the meantime, can anyone tell me if there’s a way to restart the engine while it’s coasting? My car starts up fine, but navigating to a full stop and placing car in “park” to be able to restart is difficult.

thank you!

It may be possible to shift into neutral ( not park!) Then try to start. BUT it can be dangerous while still moving. I really don't recommend it.
By the way....I donated my Volvo to a relative a few months ago. Then have had no issues yet.

As stated above I gave my V70 to a young lady with 2 small kids who couldn't afford to buy a car. That was late Feb/21 and she has not had any issue with the V70 in near 4 months. So- i believe the last shop repair got it right.
And as I stated earlier in this thread- if i ever get another vehicle it will be a Honda. And I did buy a 2013 Honda CRV with 101k miles. My wife's 2011 Crv- she got in 2011 used with about 12k miles on it - that she now has 214k miles on it- has never broken down. Only replaced tires, brakes, wiper blades, and done regular servicing. So I tried to get as lucky like her. Also we have a friend that has a local Honda shop just 5 miles away. Not at all attempting to dis on the Volvo- just saying I know the Crv will do me well- especially since I know the guy who owns a Honda shop.
Peace to all......Higgy

Default Dangerous

Dear Higgy,

Yes! Dangerous! The steering locks up, no brakes. It’s happened for times in 2 days. I got lucky on those 4 with ability to navigate a shallow turn (with a lot of strong arming the steering wheel) and making a stop out of traffic. I’m not chancing it anymore, tho. I could use the emergency brake but didn’t need to.

shifting into neutral is possible while coasting, but the car won’t start there. It’s gotta be in park. I tried to shift into neutral because my new mechanic said it would work. But, it doesn’t. L

very nice if you to donate your Volvo to the family in need.
