Ambient Temperature
Hi, newbie here.
Ambient Temperature reads lower than actual temperature and keep getting P0455.
Are they related and what part of the system uses the Ambient Temperature info to operate?
Thanks

They're not related.
I believe ambient temp is for display and maybe referred to if the engineers decided that ambient vs incoming air temp need to be compared.
Also, the ambient temp may be sent to the climate control for whatever reason.
I believe it (the temp shown) can be calibrated using VIDA.
The sensor in in one of the exterior mirror housings and isn't too expensive should it be bad.
The P0455 code is for a gross leak in the EVAP system. This could be your classic loose fuel cap.
See if the sealing gasket of your cap is intact. If it is cracked and crumbling, it isn't sealing.
Your 2001 could easily have a bad J-hose. This is a soft rubber hose which lies beside the charcoal canister.
It's location differs between turbo equipped vehicles and non-turbos.
Which do you have?
Also, where did you have your code read?
Do you do any car work yourself?
How many miles are on your vehicle?

It is a turbo with 122000 miles.
I try to do most of the work myself, what's the location of the J-hose?
After I clear the codes and drive the car prior to inspection, the P0455 code comes back once after 98 miles and the second time after 65 miles.
I replaced the cap (non OEM) after the first time so we can assume that it is not the cap.
I believe that there are 2 temp sensors, one in each mirror, is VIDA available for download?
I was mistaken. The location difference depends on whether the car is FWD or AWD. AWD's have a "saddle tank".
I assume that refers to an indentation for the driveshaft.
Sorry for the confusion.
I have FWD. My J hose was between the rear wheels atop the structure which holds the rear suspension.
The "in-place" photo is immediately ahead of the spare tire well.
Removal of the LR fender liner (drilling out plastic rivets - no big deal) was necessary to access it.
The J hose was a $21 part and was made of a soft, pliable plastic. Others mentioned that any 1/2" fuel line hose will work. It does see gasoline fumes.
I've heard the canister in AWD vehicles is on the tank somewhere.
Really get under there and follow the lines.
I've heard the same regarding the temp sensors' locations but I don't know which sensor is in which mirror.
VIDA is downloadable but since it is a proprietary program the occasions of "free downloads" were brief, shrouded in mystery and frequently failed based on the few people who posted anything about it.
Remember, they'd be posting about something illegal (I think).
What people more commonly report is procurement of a disc via ebay.
There's also an interface piece of hardware called DICE. DICE plugs into the OBD port and then into your loaded computer.
VIDA is to be loaded onto a computer which has Windows 10 and I cannot remember whether it's "Windows Pro" or not.
NOTE: A very nice, articulate man was showing me his VIDA/DICE setup. It was horribly slow and unresponsive.
During conversation he mentioned having Windows 7 on his old machine. I mentioned the Windows 10 requirement and he acted as if he didn't hear me.
I figured I was witnessing something psychological.

I guess he himself was still running on Windows 7 or Vista,

Thank you very much, Great pictures and directions.
Mine is a AWD, so there is gonna be some contorting to check it and change it if need be.
Meanwhile, I managed to pass NJ inspection, the last delete held about 110 miles, the CEL came back after I left the DMV 2 miles later. same code P0455
I'll update once I get to work on it
Again, thanks
