Default Cabin Vibration - 4 Sub Frame Mounts

Hi,

2003 V70 AWD with 115K miles. Has anyone ever replaced the 4 sub frame mounts below the engine? Is this difficult?

It appears that I am getting a lot of vibration in the cabin and through the steering wheel - you can really feel it when idling at a stop light (i.e. especially when the A/C compressor kicks in)?

The motor mounts have all been done already. So, just wondering if it could be these sub frame mounts and how hard they are to do?

Thanks

Bob

Same on mine, most evident at idle, then a places along the rpm range while accelerating.

What brand mounts did you use to replace your worn ones? Chances are that the sub-frame mounts are fine, maybe the newer mounts are made of a material that is harder.

rspi,

Thanks. Your comments made a light bulb go off in my head. Last year sometime my front lower transmission torque mount was shot. Instead of replacing it, I rebuild it with much harder rubber bushings based on the IPD poly version here:
IPD HD Billet & Polyurethane Transmission Torque Mount

As you will see in bold in their Product Description they even mention there will be significantly more vibration in the cabin with this poly mount. So, I am 99% certain that is the cause of my vibrations.

Might want to check your upper engine strut bar mount as well. If that is worn it will allow the engine to move more than usual. Also make sure it is aligned properly. If the rubber portion is mounted 90deg off, it will transmit the vibrations through the steering wheel.
