Default DIM issue?

Hi all. I just bought my first Volvo today. It's a 2002 V70 2.4T. I got a good deal on it because the instrument panel isn't working, but now I need to figure out how to fix it.

I've done some reading and the chip in the DIM seems to have a design flaw and tends to die, but there also seem to be other things that cause similar symptoms. The dealer I bought the car from seemed to be sure the DIM was the problem but I want to be sure before I start throwing money at it.

None of the gauges work, the info panel on the left does nothing and the two middle ones are not back lit but function. I'm leaning towards shipping it to xemodex for repair. Are there any other options out there are reliable? I don't have the time or money to be trying a bunch of different stuff. Also, I ordered a DICE unit. Should I wait to see what the computer has to say before pulling anything or can we be certain of the culprit without it?

The ubiquitous issue of 2002-2003 DIMs is "cold soldering". So to minimize its effect after rebuilding Xemodex using additional radiator for the CPU.

Sometimes flash becomes corrupted.

I got a redone one from Xemodex, plugged it in and it's working great. For me the best option seemed to be the free shipping option. It took a week to get it but it was the cheapest option. If you have one of the fancier DIMs you might want to ship it to them for repair.

Hello all, I just got my first volvo which happens to be a 2002 volvo s60 2.4T. I have always fell in love with the car online until I got one. But my message window LED on the left side isn't working properly. Sometimes it comes on with displaced letters flying everywhere and when it stables, it brings up SRS service urgent while the triangle warning light has changed from yellow to red.

Please I urgently need help because the red light is giving me great concern.

Default Loaded old data onto new DIM

2003 V70 T5 (154K miles) - My DIM died about 4 years ago. Sent it to Xemodex but they couldn't repair it so I bought another DIM from a auction website, had it delivered to them and they were able to pull the data from my old one and loaded it on the new one.

Installed it, took the car to the dealer and they were able to enable it for $50.

I have a 2002 V70 2.4T, my 5th Volvo wagon…..96k miles. Suddenly, I lost all gauges & message is scrambled. It comes & goes. My question is, is it dangerous to drive it with this problem?

No, it's ok to drive with a bad DIM. Your alternator will still charge.
xemodex.com has solutions for a bad/erratic DIM

The DIM on my 2004 finally got bad enough for me to send in for repair. Found European Electronics online and after a phone call, shipped it off to them. Got it back within a week, everything works great EXCEPT the SRS Airbag Urgent Service meassage just won't clear. The airbag was replaced under recall about a year ago. I live in the hinterland of northern Montana, the nearest dealer is a 3 hour drive away, they did the airbag recall for me and I'm waiting for them to get the parts to do my 2001 XC70.

I'd really like to exhaust all the possibles I can try myself before I make the long deer dodging drive.
