Just bought an '06 -- not running -- need advice
Hello all,
Just bought a non-running '06 V70 2.4 5-speed manual transmission from a friend. I would appreciate any advice or suggestions.
The car had transmission troubles with whining in most gears for several weeks. Then it literally died on the way to trade it in for a new Subaru. I am the proud new owner, heh heh. Got it towed over to my driveway where it sits. Car has 96,000 miles, has a recent clutch but never had the timing belt done.
So, the engine does not turn over and I get only a weak "click" when I turn the key. I am trying to determine:
a) is the battery drained? Not likely as lights, wipers, etc. work fine.
b) is there starter trouble? Not sure how to check, although the starter is fairly accessibly on the front of the engine
c) did the timing belt break? Any way to check this easily just to eliminate it as a possibility?
d) could an electrical gremlin or sensor related to the bad tranny have an impact on the engine failing to turn over?
Thanks in advance for tips or suggestions. It would really be great if I could eliminate (or confirm) the timing belt issue.
