Default Left turn signal intermittent failure

My left turn signal works on and off on my 2001 volvo V70. If it stops working I can usually get it to start againg by jiggling the lever up and down or applying pressure in the down (left turn) position. Feels like some kind of glitch to me. The car has 108k miles on it, just started recently. Some days it is fine.

Anyone know a good solution to fix this?

My 2003 V70 with 115k miles started doing exactly the same thing last winter (probably when it had 108k on it!). Same symptoms and left side too. But then it got better when the weather warmed up.

Move forward to this past summer when I read in the Tech Q&A of "Bimmer" magazine someone wrote in about the same problem with their early 2000s BMW. The reply was these cars are very sensitive to bulb resistance. The recommendation was to remove all the turn signal bulbs in the car and clean the contacts on the bulbs and in the socket.

Well sure enough my problem returned about 2-3 weeks ago when the weather started getting cooler again. So, Saturday before last I removed my left rear turn signal bulb, cleaned everything. So far so good, problem gone and weather has gotten pretty cool. Could be a coincidence and I'll give it some more time before calling it resolved but hey, worth a try. And at least the price is right.

Good luck. Let me know how it turns out.

OK, I will give it a go this weekend. Just replaced the break lights anyway as both outside rear stopped working. So, I'm waiting on a new relay to replace what appears to be a broken one. We'll see if cleaning the light bulb + socket will change anything.

I gave it a go. Cleaned out everything and removed some build up. Applied bulb grease. It definately is better...but I'm still having issues. Although, now it is maybe 20% of the time vs. before. So, perhaps you're on to something.

OK, great to hear. Mine is working perfectly normal again too. Might I suggest you pull the front and side bulbs on the left side and clean them too. Maybe that will resolve your remaining issue.

So this happened. I found that my broken wire is the black (ground?) right at the plug that goes into the door. How do you release the broken end out of the plug?
