Default overheated, compression very good, no start?

2001 V70XC turbo 5cyl. ( XC70 ). 120,000 miles. Car overheated on wife, unsure if leak or ? but overheated. Of course when it cooled she restarted and drove it some more. After it cooled a few hours and I refilled water it ran like a 1 cylinder tractor, no power. Stalled whenever put in drive. Water did not seem to spew out at this point.
Trailered it home, had a very little bit of oil in the water, saw no water in the oil. All cyl had right around 120psi compression which suprised me. Should have done a leakdown test but in a hurry, removed cylinder head. Bit of a job in itself! Cyl Head Gasket looked in good shape, only thing i saw perhaps out of the ordinary was that the #5 cylinder area had a lot of carbon deposits, not neccessarily on piston and in cylinder, more on the mating surface of the head and block (and head gasket). I believe this is from previous use, as it did not run long enough after the problem to cause this. I did a quick check of the head last night and it does not seem warped , at max 2 thou out /ft. (checked with steel ruler). Assuming the compression guage is working properly it seems odd that when cool it would not run 1/2 decent. Overheating i assume would not kill either spark or fuel injection, if it has good compression it should run. Anyone have any idea's? Thanks

That compression is not very good. Should be around 160-190.
Should have done a cylinder leakage test before tearing it apart. If the block and head have been properly checked for warpage, all you can do is put it back together and hope it was the head gasket.

Can't really gauge by the compression # though i don't think, all gauges are different, this one is probably 30 yrs old. All showing the same i have always thought to be the important part.

I would take the head to a machine shop and make sure it's not warped. If the head is warped at all it will put the camshafts in a bind. A good sized shop can straighten it.

First off, figure out why it over heated.

If you have the head off, send it to a shop. Over heating can cause many issues, burnt plugs, wires, sensors, etc. Did you get a CEL? Read for codes?

Pulling the head is a lot of work. Hope you check the block for cracks. Oil in the coolant can be a serious issue.

Well then I'd get an accurate gauge, or do a cylinder leakage test.
