More than a year ago I posted a question concerning an occasional popping noise from the speaker(s?) of my 2007 V70 2.5T. I couldn't find the original thread so I'm posting a new one to report the resolution.

The noise seemed to come from behind me on the driver side and almost always occurred when the car was hot, like sitting in the sun for a few hours. While the car was still under warranty I took it back to Volvo several times but they could never reproduce it but they did log my complaint. The weather cooled down and the problem became less frequent so I didn't bother and the car got out of warranty.

Finally last summer it got so annoying that I took it back to Volvo for one more try and finally they heard the noise that time. They gracefully said they would cover the repair since it was first logged when the car was under warranty.

After the mechanic had dismantled pretty much the entire sound system and spending more than a day on the phone with Volvo Technical center, he was able to isolate the problem to not any speakers but a faulty wire harness. They said replacing the harness would cost $3K to $4K so they left the harness in place and ran a new wire (or wires?) parallel to it. Knock on wood, I haven't heard the noise again since.

Just thought that I'd let you know, in case anybody else had the same issue.

Yes, the issue was fully resolved and never came back. The Volvo dealer didn't tell me exactly which new wires they had run but hopefully that'd give your speaker shop some clue.
