Rails on 2002 V70 AWD

Rails on 2002 V70 AWD
I'm thinking about buying a 2002 V70 but it doesn't have a rack.
I need to be able to carry close to 175 lbs of kayaks on the roof. It looks like the options to set this up are buying the rails and then buying crossbars (thule or yakima) or buying the Volvo load carriers.
In the pictures of the load carriers, they look really close together. How do they attach to the roof? Would I be able to spread them further apart or do they need to connect to the roof at a set place?
If I go for the rails, can I get them off ebay and install them myself? How difficult is that to do? Will the rails that fit a 2002 XC70 also fit the V70?
