Default Rear washer mystery

Hi,

I have a 2003 Volvo V70. My rear washer doesn't work, the front does. I removed the bumper and swapped the cables going the front and rear washer pump and the rear started working, telling me that the pump works and the hoses are not clogged. The 10A rear washer fuse is fine and the #14 relay is fine. I cannot think of anything else.

On a more general note: it seems that both washers are activated by pulling the lever on the left of the steering wheel. Why would they have two separate wiring, fuses, relays, pumps etc if they are always activated together?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Sometimes giving the car info, year etc is very helpful.

My 2008 washes the rear window by pushing the wiper lever to the front of the car. Don't know about the earlier years.

I had a 2001 and now have a 2004 v70 both of them required the driver to push on the washer/wiper stalk to activate the rear washer. Your 2003 seems to be wired strangely, or there is a short.

The washers are independent of each other. There are two pumps. You may have one bad pump.
