Default Shudders with AC on

I have a 2005 V70 2.4 with 177,000 miles. About a month ago, I noticed my car would shudder when slowing or coming to a stop. The idle would drop down to 600 rpms but would quickly go back up to 800 rpms which is normal idle speed. The shudder will also happen when the car is in Park and i rev up the engine and let it drop down. This only happens with the AC on, otherwise, when the AC is off, the idle is smooth and never drops below 800rpms. I installed new spark plugs and air filter but the problem still exists. Anyone else encounter this and successfully solve this problem???

From memory, the V70 also comes with a ecm for AC. Have you tried the: Turn Car to postion 2 on key (don't start). Hold the read button, and tap the fog light twice, to get the car to read the DTC's.. It wont tell you codes, but will tell you which module is playing up.

Hmm, I've had something similar happen in my wife's car. When AC is on and going strong (hot summer), and letting it fall to idle from high rev (say coming to a traffic stop) it stutters a touch and has actually stalled twice. It restarts fine and keeps going, but it's still a bit worrying.

It also sounds like the some liquid is boiling/evaporating/condensing, which I understand is the vacuum system.

Anything to check per se? It's time for new spark plugs, so maybe I'll start there. Thank you for any help and advice, as I'm not terribly familiar with this car (2006 V70 2.4).

Series 2 V70 has Moduals for nearly every thing in the car. Doing the Hold Read Button and Tap Fog light twice will bring up the DTC's in dash. Either OK or SET (Which means fault.). I have SET on everyone of mine except the SRS System (Runs independent of system). Standard little OBDII readers will not clear these faults. Mine have all flagged up thanks to a battery that was allowed to go flat by previous owner. I am waiting on the arrival of Vadis Dice to clear all my codes. In car test with the vehical (Read Button, flog light) will only let you know if certain modual has a SET DTC's. It will never tell you whats wrong.

After consulting with my very knowledgeable Autopsied Volvo mechanics. they informed me - NEVER! EVER! LET YOUR BATTERY GO FLAT! in the V70. Otherwise, you'll have to have a dealer clear all the DTC's or a reader capable of doing so. Standard cheap ($140 and less) OBDII readers can not clear the modual DTC's.

Hope this helps....
