Default Updating suspension and steering components

I'm going to be updating the front end suspension and steering components of our V70 with 182k miles soon as I think they are about due. At slow speeds (when stopping or changing from park to reverse) there is an obvious clicking sound, presumable coming from the axles.

At any rate, below is a list of components I'm looking to replace. I wanted to see if any one here could give me recommendations for components. I have looked on FCP and IDP.

Front:
  • Axles (both sides)
  • Front struts
  • control arms
  • Sway bars
  • ball joints
  • Springs (this may be overkill)
  • Strut base
  • Wheel bearings (again, maybe overkill)

Rear:
  • Shocks

I'm looking at Monroe front and rear struts/shocks (model 39040, 71485). Any good?

I've had really good luck with lemforder control arms. I've had monroes on my v40 now for about 100k miles and they are fine. They are not exciting but they do the job. I put some bilsteins on our newer v70 which made for a good upgrade but with the kind of mileage you have got its probably not worthwhile. I would recommend going oem for the roll-bar links. Some of the aftermarket stuff lasts two years and then you are back in there. Happened to me. I would also recommend replacing the strut mount hardware while you are at it (bearing, etc). If possible go oem on that too. I would not bother with the wheel bearings. Also if you are going to do the shocks do all four as the rears are cheap and you don't want to have to go in for two alignments if you end up having to do them later.

In addition I would only replace an axle if it is confirmed to be bad. If the other is fine - leave it in. Many of the aftermarket axles won't last half as long as the volvo originals. If it were me I would instead head to a junkyard and find a volvo part to replace the bad axle.

Is it worth the expense to replace the entire control arm? I have seen kits at fcp with the business etc. I may just go that route as the Volvo control arm doesn't look to be in bad shape. I guess it may be one of those things where it may take forever to remove the old bushings etc. rather than just do a complete swap.

I.tightened both of the axle bolts over the weekend (35 Nm +90°) and that seemed to help with dune of the clicking I was hearing. There is still some on the driver side & both of the boys are split.

By "the business" you mean "bushings", right? And by "both of the boys are split", well, I don't follow that one. I don't speak your type of language I guess.
