Angry V70 automatic gearbox problem

Hello.

Bought a 2001 2,4 120kw Volvo V70. it runs smooth, is a really nice car and i absolutely love it. BUT. Tehere is a problem with the transmition. When ever i start driving and select the D mode on my PNP it works great and well. But after 1-2 kilometers of driving, when for example i come to a full stop behind a traffic light and then try to start driving again, it just won't simply move. It sometimes feels like the gear is engaged but not fully or as if the clutch would not connect the gearbox with the motor. So far i have upgraded to latest software at my local Volvo service. I also had "neutral control" removed so there is no way the gear shifts to neutral and then won't take in the first gear when i try to accelerate.
To start moving again i have to select the "L" mode on my PNP. The problem also sometimes occures when im still moving with my car but i am at low speed. Checked the ATF, level is fine, color is fine. Im so confused of what could be wrong with my gearbox.
Any help is welcome

Johannes

Hi Paul!

No i do not get any error codes. But i will check again to make sure. Recently i have noticed my car going to limp mode when i accelerate fast ang gives me a message in italian to go to engine check asap .. After engine restart it works again perfectly.

Hi Erd,
that last bit of info is interesting.

I've had this issue with my S60 and V70 and it turned out to be the throttle body that was the problem:

my S60 would go into limp home mode, the gear wouldn't matter but after a couple of minutes I could start again and then drive for a random amount of time - the worse it got the more frequent the stops (the 70 started doing it so I changed it without waiting to spend time on the side of the motorway).
I think it's possible to put the bosch one in place of the earlier one - but check (it's easier to get hold of and more reliable).
Both of my cars were autos.

hope this helps,
P.

Unfortunately your car is plagued with a bad Aisin Warner transmission. 2001 was a bad year for valve bodies for the AW55-50SN/51SN. These transmissions are notorious for failure and you should Google "2001 Volvo Aisin Warner transmission failure" for details. Good luck.
