Hi guys, New to the forum, wanted to ask a question regarding my fathers Volvo s80 D5 2.4 tdi. The car has developed a fault on friday. A transmission service message popped up and the car had a red explanation mark pop up, also the display showed a "-" instead of "D" for Drive. The car went down on power and he felt like if the "clutch" was slipping (no clutch in auto). He drove the car home fine though. Now today we went to town and once we got back to drive home and stopped at light. when we wanted to move again the thing just would not go. Revs go off the scale and the car wouldnt budge. then after dropping the revs down to abou 1000 it kind of got it moving with trial and error we got home. Now I need to know what are we looking at. is it fixable and if not what type of gearbox is it and how much am i looking for a rebuild and how much for a used unit. Please respond ASAP.
