Default V70 - wont start - intermittent issue....

OK - this is likely the MOST annoying issue I have ever experienced with a car..........

2003 V70 runs great BUT intermittently will not start - will turn over but nothing. As soon as you call the tow truck it starts.

Taken to TWO different Volvo dealers over the past two months and performed:
- starter replacement
- cam sensor, rpm sensor
- antenna light ring

for around 2K all in and this AM i would NOT START again.

I'm at the end of my rope - anyone have any good ideas?.....

Thanks in advace................

Does it start if you put the pedal to the floor when you turn it over? If so, take the idle control valve out and clean it with some brake cleaner and reinstall.

- pedal to floor and various combinations

If that were me, seeing that I already spent $2000 I would get a VIDA DICE connection of some sort and experiment with it. This may not work, and you probably need to run windows 7, but there is a chance you can diagnose the real issue if you can make observations when it happens. I realize these are all knockoffs and so forth, but for $100 why not try it? there are some non-VIDA-DICE-clone options too (icarsoft makes one) that might work. You can see all this stuff on amazon.

Search for faulty check valve in fuel pump...I seem to remember reading something about that recently. On a related note it may make sense for you to hook up a gauge to measure your fuel pressure at the rail. I'm not an expert here but thing to look for are low pressure or no pressure at start.

also, does your car have a fuel pressure regulator at the end of the fuel rail? When faulty it can cause mystery no start and stall conditions.

id be a bit surprised if this were a fuel issue......

let the car sit for an hour come back starts perfectly......

seems like this is an electrical - perhaps anti theft circuit - issue.?....

All

This turned out to be the fuel pump!!!

There is a shraeder valve on the fuel manifold making this easy to verify - fuel pump is a bear to change but.....
