Default What other year and model radiator cooling fans will fit my 2003 V70XC?

New to me 2003 V70 XC. My current radiator cooling fan is running continuously after the car is shut off, until the battery dies. Need to replace the fan (I have read on another forum).

Wondering what other year and model Volvo radiator cooling fans will fit. Local wrecking yard has 3 1998 V70 wagons, most likely has other sedans and wagons, but I only searched for V70.

Surely the fans function is related to the engine temperature sensor? ECT
If the fan in fact runs then the unit itself must be okay.
Alternatively you may have a faulty thermostat or the radiator core might be clogged.

Well, yes, but the fan has an integrated transistorized switch, that can fail in the Shorted mode, that leaves the fan running constantly, and you MUST replace the entire fan assembly in order to replace the switch,...............at least that is the only info I have yet to find. Seems like everyone who has this same problem ends up replacing the fan assembly. Problem fixed.

Most of the posts I have read on all the Volvo forums relating to radiator fans, running on seem to have been resolved by replacing the ECT, or the thermostat.
Seen some referring to maf also?? strangely.
How can the fan still operate if the integrated switch has in fact 'shorted' out. Wouldn't that blow a fuse and stop it? (sorry, I dont profess to be an auto electrician)

Also was wondering if your V70XC is actually running extra hot or overheating currently?

He's right, its common for the fan control module to stay on.

Thanks ES6T for clarifying that.
So could he simply replace the control module or is he up for another whole fan assembly?

Thanks, hadn't seen that. Thinking I am going to go for the new unit at Rock Auto. Fan and Module for $114.

Read about it on the XC forum.

Module is not available separately, and apparently, no one has come up with a DIY fix.

Dont blame you with that price difference.
Has a warranty too so better option than a 2nd hand part ex wreckers.

Default Update

Replaced the cooling fan assembly with a new unit from Rock Auto yesterday. About a 30 minute job.

It did fix the problem.
