Looked for a dipstick on the driver's side, don't see one, but engine bay is filthy on this car, so may have missed it. Is there a dipstick, or is this a sealed transmission that must be checked my pumping in trans fluid until it leaks back out from under the car??

On my 02, it's on the front of the transmission (not the top), and it's WAAAYY down there. It has a yellow handle with a metal clip you have to push out of the way to release it. It took me awhile to find it as well. It is in, bar none, the DUMBEST location I've ever seen. You're supposed to check the fluid level when it's hot and engine running. There is NO way to reach it without burning your hands, so you MUST wear gloves. A rag or long sleeves will help protect your arms.

 

That's because the designers don't have to check their own transmission fluid.
