Hi all, I have a 05 XC70 with a brake / abs issue. The other day after starting the car, the ABS and Brake failure light came on, there was also a Ca chunk Ca chunk Ca chunk noise from the passenger side of the car, may be behind the glove box area. I turned off the ignition, restarted and all is fine. It seems to do this every 4 or 5 starts, I have scanned the car with my old scanner, and there are no codes. This Noise, lights and Brake Failure Stop Safely message are quite concerning, and am at a loss of where to look. After reading a few messages I did replace the car battery as some messages indicated that voltage could be the issue. The battery was factory, 9 years was not bad at all. Any suggestions would be helpful, as at this point I am lost. Okay, well this issues is still happening, actually it's worse, the car is not drivable, but I have found that the ca chunk noise is the shift interlock. Code from the scanner is U0002. My friend started looking around after reading a few forums. When he disconnected the DEM, differential module all the noises stopped, clear the code and the car is now drivable, check engine light is on but that is expected with the DEM disconnected. Have noticed a small corroded hole in the module. I am thinking I need a new diff module, any opinions? I am hoping I am on the right track.

 

I have the exact same problem on my s40 have you had any more problems with it or found a 100% resolve?
