Default '06 C70: Horn not working

Local repair guy thinks we might need to replace the CRM (?)

I called the Volvo dealer: said there is no software module that drives the horn---it's either the horn itself or the contacts in the steering wheel.

I've gotta talk to the local guy, as he gave me a pretty hefty quote compared to what the dealer said it might cost.

The CRM is the Convertible Roof Module. The horn has nothing to do with it and should be very easy to diagnose. Not sure I'd go to whoever you're going to anymore.

Okay, it could be the CEM. It grounds the relay that powers the horns when it gets signal to do so from the steering wheel module.

hmmmm. Could it just be the 'relay' needs replacing?

BTW, and thanks so much for responding.

It sure could. I would hope they diagnosed this properly before recommending something as costly as the CEM. If the relay has power and no ground when the horn is pressed, the signal to the CEM would need to be checked.

Would the computer diagnostics show this problem?

Depends what equipment they have. Not sure what kind of horn codes can be stored, if any. VIDA should be able to monitor the input to the SWM.
