Default 2002 XC Brakes lights will not turn off...

So for the last day or so my brake lights all 3 are on all the time... this all started after I had to slam on the breaks to avoid someone pulling out in front of me.... 60mph to zero... The car drives fine, I have no warning lights, I have check all fuses thru the car. It is possible that I smashed the little siwthc that is mounted to the brake pedel? Also when I am under the dash, if I touch the wires or the pedel I can hear what sounds to be a servo motor in the center console or maybe up in the dash...... Any help would be great... or a point in the right direction...

Thanks.... Mike (north of Atlanta)

I think I need one of these but not sure..

Before buying a switch check yours to see if it has dislodged itself or is stuck in the "pushed" position. Applying all that pressure on it may have pushed the switch far enough in where it may have just wedged itself in place where it won't slide back out.

Yea I tried that... It isn't stuck at all... I am just wondering if it is broke because of how hard I had to slam on the breaks

Figured out what it is after snooping some more... The bracket that holds the switch to the brake pedel had moved... I bent it back and it is working with no issue... I guess I pushed it back when I slammed on the brakes...

Disconnect it, if brake lights go off I would say the switch is the issue. You can also try running a wire across two pins on connector to see if brake lights go on when closing the circuit. I can't see what else it could be, but then I am no auto electrician.

Gee, lucky the brake pedal didn't go through the floor. Glad your issue is fixed
