Hello all, I am hoping that I can get some guidance in preforming a timing belt change on my 2005 xc70. Now I have done timing belts in the past, however this will be my 1st time on this car. Any and all advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

 

As with most cars, there are special tools required to hold the cam shafts in place and you need to get a lot of torque to crack the main pulley nut. Since these are double cam engines, there's a tool to lock both cams in place, then you can scribe the crank/pulley position to make sure the timing marks are hit. I assume you have a 5 cyl/twin cam? Look on Youtube - there should be some demo videos for V70/850s that should help.

 

Locking the cams is not necessary for just replacing the belt.
