Default 2001 s40 timming belt

I own a 01 s40 with 100,000 miles. Is it time to change the timing belt or can it wait a little longer? I looked at the belt and it looks fine. How much will this cost me at the dealer or elseware?

100k miles is the time to change the belt on any car. Now having broke 2 because I did not listen, I am a true believer. They will break and leave you stranded at the worst possible time. I broke one on a Volvo 240 and another on a little Dodge. Don't let it go past 110k miles.

The belt is like $50 at the local parts house. You need a new belt tensioner too. A new water pump is highly recommended since the timing belt runs it and the work to change the pump is the same as the belt. The dealer will cost the most. They usually have a standard (very high) price for this job. I would call your local dealer and get their price. Then call your local mechanic and get his. Or get a book and do it yourself. It's not hard with the right tools.

EDIT: Forgot to add that I've heard 1.9L engine is a non-clearance engine meaning a broken belt will cause the piston to hit the valves. This means a very, very expensive repair.
