hey guys, so a week ago I was using my car perfectly. no check engine and the only issue that had popped up was a blown pass side low beam. I drove around 2 days with it like that and it ran great. I went to a few stores and at the final one before I headed back home the car wouldn't start. got the a few messages immobilizer try start again, dstc, trans issues, etc. I recorded a video
I have purchased a new ground negative cable and installed it. the battery has been tested by me and at auto zone (interstate bat w/ 12.48ish v and good CCA) and its 4 months old. I even took out the battery from my Infiniti which is also a year old and no start. Ive also gone and checked the fuses and they all appear to be good. I don't have vida/dice but did have a Volvo specific icarsoft which is showing me no communication with multiple modules and 2 obd codes (p1719 & p0725). could this be the dreaded BCM issue where I have to get it replaced? on the P3 is the BCM also located similar to the P2?
these are some codes the icarsoft shows for certain modules
TCM (p072500 P171900 U010000)
DIM(U14000 U042268)
CEM(U010000 U012800)
ABS(C004087 U012800 U010000)
PAM(U042200)
DDM(B118E00 D119000)
the car did have the 2 electronic parking brakes removed since I purchased the car 10 months ago.
so any additional advice would help, I'm in the DFW (East Dallas) area so if there is anyone with vida/dice that could help ill appreciate it.
Your scanner puts out Volvo codes. Most of those codes (all the uo10000 codes and some others in each module) are communication codes with the CEM. Have you had a bunch of rain and the car is parked outside? You may have gotten water in your CEM. Or the CAN network was damaged somehow (probably not from water) . Common failures courtesy of xemodex.
it had rained a bit, but nothing too dramatic and yes the car is always parked outside. thanks for the suggestion. Ima try tonight to check/remove the cem and check if its corroded or if the connection looks bad.
after sending it to a local Volvo specialist (Dallas Elect auto center), he said the ecm wasn't active in the module network. it wasn't visible. he recommended I take it to the dealership but after talking to XeMODeX I decided to save a bit of money and send it to them. they got it and told me their system could read but it could still be bad. I decided to have them transfer the data from my ecm to a refurbished one they had(~$700). got it super fast back and installed it. during the time I sent out the ecm I acquired a vida/dice system. so when I got the ecm back and installed it I ran vida and saw that the ecm was active and almost all my codes disappeared.everything looked good in vida. but also in the time it was shipped out my wife accidentally washed the fob. so the car still wouldn't start. but everything in the network was active and working and no codes. finally decided to send it to the local dealership, I thought the fob was bad but they said it wasn't and ran a 3 hr diagnosis ($600) and only replaced the main relay($25) in the fuse compartment in the engine bay. it started!! picked it up and drove it home.
but that's not the end of the story....
while mowing the lawn a few hours after getting home. the alarm randomly went off. the fob was in my pocket about 20 ft away from the car. the fob wouldn't stop it and the unlock and lock button wouldn't do anything. got in, put the fob in the ignition receiver. and again no start. so now im back at a car that doesn't start. a little upsetting that in a 3 hr diagnosis they were not able to actually fix the issue. I still believe the current issue now is the fob that is triggering the immobilizer but I don't know. got to ship it back to the dealer. gonna get a new fob and ask to disable to old one.
dealing with dealerships suck. having a service adviser as a middle man and not being able to communicate directly with the mechanic isn't fun. plus paying $200 per hour to diagnose and not getting a straight answer of what was the basis of the issue. slapping new parts and hoping it works shouldn't be how things get done when dealing with authorized repair centers.
Yeah, it was the ignition slot. After getting vida/dice and thinking it was the ecm and got it swapped by ($700). It still wouldn’t start. Had to take it to the dealer (Volvo specialist told me it’s a dealer only fix).got a new ignition slot and got it programmed to work with the car. $950 for the dealer stuff. I was told the slot just stop reading the fob so it wouldn’t allow it to turn on.
