On our '08 XC70, the power windows go about halfway up and then go back down...all while holding the button to go up. Does it need to be reset? Anyone know the procedure to do this?

The window goes back down because it senses resistance. Guess it's a Volvo safety thing so you cant get your arm or hand caught in it. You can test it by pushing down on the window at any point while it is going up. Mid way must be the point of most resistance since mine has done the same thing at the midpoint. I found by spraying silicone in the channels stops it for a few months give or take since I live on a dirt road and some seasons are dustier than others here in Vermont. Just be sure to get pure silicone and not lubricant with silicone or you will be making a mess if it has petroleum lubricants in it. Pure silicone dries so you will only have to clean the window once.
