Default 2010 xc70 Australian model rear driver side door lock

Could not find any assistance with malfunctioning door lock. Manually OK. All info on internet not relevant in many aspects. Got outer panel off after removing small panel and screw from behind handle. Disconnected electrical connectors and door handle cable. Lifted outer panel from door. Inner panel held by hex screws to door (loosened) plus three screws towards rear of panel (removed) (splines). Removed speaker, three screws. Wound window down about half to two thirds down. removed rubber hole cover near certre of panel showing the window mechanism behind it. visible are slots in a steel frame. Attached to the frame is a yellow plastic assembly. On the right hand side of this assembly is a finger of yellow plastic which has a small lug that is fed into a hole in the window at the bottom of the glass. I needed a torch to see this and to position the window so I could see it. Press the plastic lug towards the door's outer skin and lift the glass upwards so the lug is disengaged from the hole. I taped the glass in the upper position just in case it wanted to fall during the rest of the procedures. Remove all the retaining hex screws from the inner panel. The inner panel can now be removed by dropping the panel down so that the winder assembly can clear the door. The door lock rod can easily be removed from its white actuator. Remove the electrical plug from the locking assembly. This has a small catch at the bottom of the plug. (a bit awkward to access). Remove the three screws on the rear edge outside of the door lock assembly. A small plastic plug above, will need removing to access a screw that secures the rear block of the outside door handle. This screw faces forward at an angle. Do not completely disengage this screw or it will drop to the bottom of the inside of the door. Remove the rear portion of the handle assembly then lift the rest of the handle forwards and it will release from the inner catch. Remove the screw from the front of the hole where the handle was positioned. The complete locking assembly will now be free and removable from the door. At this point, further dismantling of the locking assembly is as far as you want to go. If you wish to replace one of the drive motors it is a relatively straightforward job. I actually took the motors out and checked them on the bench. The main locking motor was very slow, so I pulled it apart and found that the lubricating grease had got all over the copper commutator segments and was requiring a good clean up. (This is a job that I would not recommend to the faint hearted, or those with no small tools or patience. I would purchase a new motor and be happy with that) Reassembled, tested and put back in the subassembly. Put everything back together in reverse order and tested. No more door lock problem. I hope that this explanation might assist someone. PS When positioning the window back in place, a little force is required to get the lug to engage back into the hole in the glass, but it is quite easy to achieve. Sorry , no pikkies, no mobile phone.
