Angry 2011 xc70 FWD axle removal from the bowls of hell.

Long Story short: Front left axle will not come out of the transmission. It will only move about 3/8" so I am thinking the circlip has bent. I have tried every method know to the internet and it has baffled two actual mechanics. It has been suggested giving it a shot from the other side of the transmission. This is from the right side. Am I looking at the inner end of the left axle? Does not look like the inner end of the new one.

Between the axles will be the spider gears in the differential - that allows each wheel to turn at a different speed - so no - you can't push it out from the other side.

Thanks Hoonk. So much for that Idea. Guess I am back to trying to get the clip to drop. Ever had one that got bent and jammed?
