Default 2013 XC70 Tailgate Struts Failed

Hi all,

I presume my 2013 XC70 tailgate struts have failed as the tailgate comes down and won't stay up. It's a manual one, not electric. 8,000 miles, average use.

Have many experienced the same failures with recent year models? Is this common or rare?

I'd love to just repair/replace them myself, rather than wasting time taking it to the dealer. I do assume it's warranty covered still. Still, can someone comment on source of gas struts and difficulty in installing it? Are they similar to previous generations by chance? (above the liner in the back?)

Thanks a lot in advance,
Alex...

If you are in warranty still how is a no cost repair a waste of time? **it happens, this is why there is warranty on the car. Yes gas struts should last a lot longer but there is nothing to stop them from going bad.

I personally haven't done them but from talking to other techs that have they are a pain in the ***. Just take it to the dealer. That is what you have the warranty for.
