Default DIY timing belt kit replacement mix up maybe

hello all,I need help!! i recently purchased a 2004 xc70 2.5t. with 210,000 miles. doing my due diligence, and seeing the sticker stating when the last timing belt was changed at 149,000 i decided to order a Aisin timing belt kit based upon my serial number 3399470, as apparently there are 2 types that have different size tensioners. basically short and long forks.Based on my serial number Aisin sent me the kit with the longer forks. To my surprise when I got to the point where i was to remove the tensioner i noticed it looked like the type from serial numbers up to 318xxx with the short forks. I double checked the sticker on side of the timing cover, and the stamped serial number at the rear of engine to verify my serial number and its 3399470. So i went on with the install thinking that who ever did the last belt change used the wrong tensioner. Anyway when i got all the pullys installed and timing lined up.etc. i went to install the new belt starting from the crank and working my way counter clockwise. But i cant get the belt to fit. I get it around the new water pump, but cant get it around the new tensioner. i put the 6mm allen in the hole and set it at 10;00 as per instructions, Ive even turned the allen all the way to the left and doesnt give me enough slack to get the belt around the tensioner. the new tensioner looks like if fits with one fork on either side of the square notch from the engine block.
NOTE: the old tensioner needle was all the way to the right, yet the car had been sitting for a couple days waiting for this kit. it also wasnt set around the square block but more to the right . Anyway not sure what do to. Order the old type tensioner? Please advice... Thanks in advance for any advice as im not sure what to do!!
