Bought a used 2005 xc70 about a month ago and after the necessary fixits I've been happy with it. Only have one key. As for as I've found out so far don't do anything but fork over the $500 for key/cutting/and programming at the dealers or you'll be disappointed. That's Seattle price and I don't know key or keys yet, i'll follow up later. I hope to get a fob and a service key.

keys need to be programmed in pretty much all modern car. I had to just replace one for my '12 VW CC and it cost about $350 for the key and the program - similar cost when we got a spare for my daughter's 2010 Mazda. I suspect the Volvo will be about the same (newer models with more fob features probably cost more...)

were you able to figure out any kind of aftermarket solution? I remember dealing w this 20 years ago on a VW, it was only a few years later that aftermarket solutions had cut the cost of a programmed switchblade key down by 90%. sounds like I’m gonna have to put an AirTag on the only key to this XC70. Unfortunately the damn thing locked itself automatically with the engine idling the other day, so that portends some fun down the road
