Gear selector is sticking
Hi,
My wife's 2002 xc70 is given her trouble in the mornings. The problems seems to only happen when it is cold outside and goes away when it is warm enough in the car. The problem is that the gear shift will not go out of park. I clearly hear the solenoid clicking and even see it moving when the brakes are applied. I do not know if the solenoid is moving enough but I would bet it is from what I see.
I suspect what makes the shifter moves is the solenoid moving and the gear shift button being pressed in. Possibly the gear shift button/linkage is the cause. Unfortunately I do not see anything that goes from under the console to the shift button.
I am hoping that someone can give me any ideas as to what the problem might be and how to fix it and it would be great if someone can tell me how I get lubricate everything connected to the shift button.
Thanks so much,
Jomo

Update. I went out this cold morning to see if the shift interlock solenoid was working and it did not move. After the car warmed up it moved. So know I know that solenoid is not engaging when it is cold outside.
Does this always signal a bad solenoid? If yes, can someone please explain how to remove it? Otherwise what else can it be?
