Default Headlight Bulb Replacemnent Fail

So we've had this new-to-us 2008 XC70 for a few days now and I have set myself a goal to eliminate the few vehicle messages it displays, one of which is "burnt position bulb" or such.
I checked and both the driver side parking and side marker bulbs (dinky 5W thingies) were out. Now, after substantial vehicle disassembly and scraped knuckles doing this several times on our trusty P2 V70, I was almost ecstatic - pull out 2 pins, disconnect one readily accessible connector and voila -- the headlight is out and ready for the workbench, where all is orderly and convenient... And it's all described (if rather poorly) in the owner's manual, which gave me great confidence ("even I can do it!")....
Removing the main connector was a fight but that was only the beginning. Removing and replacing the side marker bulb was miserable. Finally it came out and in went the new one.
The parking bulb was the straw that nearly broke my back (and my bank account). I took the high beam bulb out as directed (that was easy!! In a Volvo??) but then getting the parking bulb holder to budge was impossible. I tried every tool in my garage but nothing.
Until at one point I was trying to push and wiggle the bulb holder with a long flat screwdriver when the entire multi-reflector unit disconnected from the headlight assembly housing and rammed into the clear fairing. Nothing happened to the fairing but it really doesn't matter as there is no way (that I could figure) to pull and press-fit the reflector back onto 3 male/female features in the housing.

I have an aftermarket headlight assembly on order, due here in 3-4 days. Now I'm $220 poorer, but even richer in Volvo headlight bulb replacement experience...
One day I would like to meet face to face the design morons Volvo seems to insist on supporting at their headlight suppliers.

Unfortunately for some reason - Volvo included the front parking lights into the "position bulb" warning system in those cars. Normally it was only the 4 rear parking lights that the system cared about. But some of the xc70's that had the impossible to remove front parking bulbs were included in the warning system. To replace that bulb usually has taken at least 3 hands and several tools at the same time. I sympathize with your outcome.

I’ve removed headlight lenses -on a Lexus- by putting them in the oven at 200* for 10 minutes or so, then gently, very gently, prying with a 5 in 1 tool. The sealant softens enough to release the lens. Clean the old sealant thoroughly, then use a windshield adhesive or similar to refasten. There are, of course YouTube videos.
I don’t know if Volvo headlights are similarly constructed.
Do this at your own risk and don’t get pissed at me if this fails.
