Default Living la vida Volvo.. p0711, p1618, p0116, p0301

Hi all,
Just bought my first Volvo and so far it has proved itself to be the most difficult car I have ever owned..which is sad because it really was my dream car! Anyway, I live where it is really hot (over 100°) right now, bought the car a month ago from private party (I totaled my Acura CL, still in mourning over that loss). It has 181000 miles which I know is high, no maintenance records, seller seemed like a sheister, etc. There were some huge red flags but in my blind desperation (I deliver with Instacart, so my livelihood depends on my independent mobility, hence the desperation) I blasted right thru my intuition and common sense..and purchased the car for too much money. Anyway, here is what is happening: runs hot all the time without telling me. It overheated 3 times in the first 3 days I had it, mechanic couldn't get it to repeat and called it an air pocket in the coolant lines. Ok, still runs hot (meaning that the engine compartment seems really hot when I stop driving) but coolant levels remain consistent, same with oil. Still has that hot smell though. I think the coolant itself is hot and is not cooling the engine. Fan runs sometimes after car is off. Started shifting hard yesterday in low gears and now check engine light is on, with "transmission service required" on readout. Codes: p0711, p1618, p0116, p0301. That last one I thought was fixed when I changed out the #1 ignition coil because the check engine light cleared on its own after the repair..the 0711 came yesterday with the hard shifting. Anyhoo, so first question: will it kill my tranny if I drive for a few days before fixing the issue? And how to fix? Is it a sensor? Bad fluid? Bad tranny?? This is supposedly a newer factory tranny that I am working with..(the seller said he changed the head gasket as well)
Do these cars just run hot? What does the p0116 code actually mean? Do I need a new thermostat? Please help, like I said I am new to these cars and I would like the opportunity to be a happy Volvo owner! In reality, it seems far more likely that I bought a soul sucking money pit..car-b-que?

Thanks🙂
