Default New Owner; 01 xc70 - A/c stops & starts?

I just recently bought 2001 XC V70. It has a number of misc issues. I've replaced both front struts. The ball joints are next along with the a-arm bushings. Also replaced front brake rotors & pads. My a/c won't stay on. I just had it charged thinking that might be the problem. Although it took 2+lbs of freon(yeah not freon anymore just wasn't sure what its called). It is still doing the same thing. You'll be driving & all of a sudden the air goes warm. I can pull over & turn the car off. Then back on & usually that get's it going again? What does that sound like to you. A/C Pump or possible the power going to it? Mybe he dash switch is intermittent? Just hoping someone has had the same problem. Always easier to diagnose that way. Thanks in advance. I bought this for my Daughter who is going to school in Utah. Wanted a nice safe AWD for her to drive

Search a/c clutch wear. The space gets too large for the electromagnet to hold the clutch engaged. You can replace the clutch or remove it and adjust with shims.

Any trick with shimming it? Or a cheap place for a clutch. Local place wanted $300 for the new replacement
