Passenger side power steering rack seal blow out
Hello all,
2007 Volvo XC70 without speed assist. Also 234K miles with a rebuilt title (yay).
The passenger side steering rack had the seals blow out. The boot itself is filled with fluid and is leaking quite heavily from the boot and down the outer tie rod.. No leaks showing from the lines themselves on top of the rack.
The fluid itself is also a milky color, so I believe the rack itself is probably on the way out.
Has anyone had any good experiences with remanufactured racks in the United States? I am local to Michigan so a local place would be best but I have seen some other sites out there for remanufactured racks as well.
I would love to replace the seals themselves but the steering was less than lovely before the seal blew out and I believe it may also be related to the excessive body roll. If I move the steering back and forth the whole car just rolls like crazy.

The rack units for the Volvos are not cheap. However, you can try lesser cost units. Rebuilding those rack units is something that is possible, but not practical.
When replacing the steering rack, definitely replace inner and outer tie rods. Most of the time, the new inner tie rods come with a reman rack unit, sometimes not.
You'll need an alignment, too.

I believe they come with new inner tie rods as one is shot I found out when I started to take out the old rack, but I have new outer tie rods from early this year I am planning on reusing. I did a lifetime alignment through Firestone so thankfully that is covered!
If the remanufacture doesn't work out I'll probably need to either find a junkyard pull or get that one from Rock auto. They're quite expensive sadly to just buy a whole new remanufactured unit. Thankfully don't need the car for a few weeks and I am going to tackle replacing all the engine mounts while I have the subframe dropped.
