I have a 1989 Volvo 244 DL 1989. My steering rack is leaking power steering fluid, is there a way to fix this without getting a whole new rack.

 

Where is it leaking from? If it is from the seals, filling up the rubber bellows, then it needs to be rebuilt... But it could be leaking from other places as well, like fittings, hoses, etc.

 

phew, so engine shakes violently, bad idle, backfiring, and now leaking steering rack ? or is this not all the same car, as I thought I saw a 740 in your posts.

re steering rack, volvo used several different steering racks.. they are interchangeable, but the parts within them like the seals and inner tie rod ends are NOT interchangeable, you have to get the right parts for the specific rack you have, be it TRW or ZF or whatever.
