Default Radio cuts out

I have a '06 XC70 that the radio just cuts out now and then. Sometimes when it comes back on the volume is at full blast. It happens whether you are using the AM/FM or the CD player. There is no specific time it happens, bumpy road, smooth road, hot, cold, door opens shuts nothing seems to matter. Has anyone had this issue before and do you know a fix?

Default XC70 radio cutting out

I have a 2007 XC70 with the same problem except that it only affects the radio. The CD always works. The radio, however, works some days and not others. If it doesn't work at the start of a journey (usually the case) it can cut in en route or if it was working, it can cut out. There is no apparent circumstance or situation which causes this. I bought a radio from an earlier model from a breaker (same connections). That worked when I plugged it in and then stopped later. It exhibited the same problem. So it probably isn't the radio unit. I have checked all the amplifier connections and they seem to be fine - since the CD always produces sound they ought to be. I have tried waggling the aerial connection with the radio out - no effect; not surprising because the complete absence of even white noise doesn't suggest the aerial is the problem: it's completely silent, yet the radio has clearly found a station because it's on the display. It is the most ridiculous problem I have ever encountered because there is no situation that can be linked to the cutting out and therefore cause and effect cannot be isolated. I have been playing around with this for six months and got nowhere. My assumption is that somewhere along the line the radio's output is intermittently not reaching the amplifier, but where or why has eluded me. The evidence for this is that when the radio sound does reappear it is preceded by an audible electrical 'thump' which suggests power suddenly reaching something, having been previously not reaching it. Sorry to disappoint. I really wish I could solve this. Currently, I revert to my 1990 740 GLT which has a radio that has never not worked. Miracle!

Default

I have same problem with my Ford Focus, the volume and on/off control were in the same **** it's would loosen the contacts, since the factory radios were crappy and cheapy any way, it's not worth to fix it, just replace with after market unit.
