Space where spare tire fits in back
Hi All,
Was wondering if someone could advise as to what the spare tire area in the back is supposed to look like?
I just bought a 2011 XC70 and noticed the space tire sits a bit high causing the cover above to not close proper;y. When I removed the spare tire, I notice that the aluminum/ metal undercarriage seems a bit pushed up. When I poked my head under the car, I notice that the area may be pushed in - ultimately im just not sure.
Any help would be awesome - thanks in advance

Sounds like your tire well might have been bent. You should be able to stand on it and bend it back out. However, even without any deformation, that tire is very difficult to extract or replace. It's a mini tire, anyway, so you might just consider getting rid of it. If you actually have a fair chance of getting a flat, I'd suggest buying a full sized tire and standard shop floor jack. The tools provide in this car by Volvo are not up to their usual inventive nature. They suck.
The truth is, almost all of us plan to call a tow truck when we get a flat, unless it's just not an option. I pay for road hazard and towing in my car insurance, just because it's been my experience, that's a better and safer way to deal with a flat tire.
Beyond that, the well would be better used for long term storage items such as Fix a Flat inflators, a 12v tire inflator, snow chains, and a good first aid kit.
There is an organizer in my car, which I found ideal for storing all the car papers that would otherwise clutter up my glove box. I keep spare fuses, light bulbs, flashlights and glow sticks in my organizer.
NOTE TO VOLVO: The extras storage is great, but that trunk compartment really should have a key lock, like the glove box. I keep looking for an after market lock set.
